Birth Control
Birth control is being able control the number of pregnancies by planning to use some form of contraceptive.
By using a contraceptive method, you prevent pregnancies. Many contraceptive approaches are available, with varying degrees of effectiveness.
Ortho Evra Patch is another form of contraceptive, worn as a patch containing estrogen and progestin that is applied to the upper body, upper outer arm, abdomen, or buttocks. A new patch is applied once weekly for a total of three weeks. During the fourth week, no patch is worn and menstruation occurs.
One such method of birth control is Ortho Tri-Cyclen, taken by mouth daily. This contraceptive drug works by preventing sperm from reaching the unfertilized eggs, preventing implantation of a fertilized egg in the uterus, or preventing ovulation. It can also prevent acne by balancing hormone levels.
Oral contraceptives (birth-control pills) are used to prevent pregnancy. Estrogen and progestin are two female sex hormones. Combinations of estrogen and progestin work by preventing the release of eggs from the ovaries (ovulation) and changing the cervical mucus and the lining of the uterus. Oral contraceptives are a very effective method of birth control, but they do not prevent the spread of AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases.
