Digestive Health

In order to have good digestive health, you should be able to break down your foods into a simpler form, so they can be absorbed more easily. Your mouth, stomach, and small intestine, along with your pancreas work together through this process. The following enzymes: proteins, fats and carbohydrates are broken down and end up producing (when broken down correctly), simple sugars, amino acids, lipids and peptides.

Bentyl (dicyclomine) is used to treat the symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome. Dicyclomine is in a class of medications called anticholinergics. It relieves muscle spasms in the gastrointestinal tract by blocking the activity of a certain natural substance in the body.

Nexium decreases the amount of acid produced in the stomach. Nexium is used to treat ulcers, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD or heartburn), erosive esophagitis, and other conditions involving excessive stomach acid production. Nexium may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide.

Omeprazole is used to treat various acid-related stomach and/or throat (esophagus) problems (e.g., GERD, ulcers, erosive esophagitis, or Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome). It works by blocking the production of acid in the stomach. When using this medication to treat certain ulcers, it may be prescribed along with certain antibiotics (e.g., amoxicillin, clarithromycin).

Ranitidine (generic Zantac) is used to treat and prevent the recurrence of ulcers and to treat other conditions where the stomach makes too much acid. Ranitidine also is used to treat or prevent occasional heartburn, acid indigestion, or sour stomach. It decreases the amount of acid made in the stomach. Ranitidine is available with and without a prescription.
